Anti Ragging policy

Anti Ragging

Creating a Safe and Respectful Environment at BITM

At Bengal Institute of Technology and Management (BITM), we are committed to fostering a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment for all students. Ragging, in any form, is strictly prohibited both inside and outside our campus. It is our collective responsibility—management, faculty, staff, students, and parents alike—to maintain a ragging-free institution that promotes harmony and encourages learning.

BITM strictly adheres to the AICTE Regulations on Curbing the Menace of Ragging in Higher Educational Institutions, 2009. Ragging is not just a violation of our policies but a serious offense. We will take swift and decisive action against anyone found guilty, whether actively participating, aiding, or abetting such behavior.

What is Ragging?

According to AICTE, ragging includes any of the following actions:

– Teasing or Harassment: Using spoken or written words, gestures, or acts that demean, tease, or intimidate a fresher or any other student.

– Indiscipline or Rowdiness: Actions causing physical or psychological harm, annoyance, or fear to any student.

– Forcing Unusual Acts: Asking students to perform tasks that cause shame, embarrassment, or discomfort.

– Disruption of Academic Activities: Preventing or disturbing another student’s academic routine.

– Exploitation: Using another student, especially freshers, for personal or group academic tasks.

– Financial Exploitation: Forcing students to bear unnecessary financial burdens.

– Physical Abuse: Acts of violence, including sexual abuse, obscene gestures, or endangerment to health.

– Verbal or Digital Abuse: Insults, public shaming, or harassment through spoken words, emails, or social media.

– Mental Harassment: Actions that harm the self-confidence or mental well-being of any student.

Ragging is not just a breach of discipline; it undermines the values of respect, equality, and care that form the foundation of our institution.

Zero Tolerance and Punishments

BITM has established an Anti-Ragging Committee and Squads to investigate and address any reported incidents of ragging. The Principal and committee will take immediate action if any student is found guilty, including filing an FIR with the police within 24 hours.

Depending on the severity of the case, the following penalties may apply:

– Fine of up to ₹50,000.

– Suspension from classes and academic privileges.

– Withdrawal of scholarships or financial benefits.

– Ban from exams, assessments, or competitions.

– Withholding academic results.

– Prohibition from representing the college in events or festivals.

– Suspension or expulsion from hostels.

– Cancellation of admission.

– Rustication for one to four semesters.

– Permanent expulsion and disqualification from admission to any institution.

In cases where offenders cannot be identified, collective punishment may be imposed to maintain discipline.

Support for Students

First-year students and their parents are encouraged to familiarize themselves with these anti-ragging measures. If you experience or witness any form of ragging, we urge you to report it immediately to the college authorities, either in person or through the provided contact numbers.

At BITM, we believe in empowering our students through respect, collaboration, and care. Together, let us ensure a campus environment where everyone feels safe, valued, and inspired to grow.

Your safety and dignity are our priority.
